Nourished Postpartum
What if your experience of those initial years postpartum could be different?
It’s no secret that moms aren’t given the support they need, including the information and tools to properly care for and nourish themselves and as a result, recover fully. Instead, they’re left hanging after 6 weeks, often overwhelmed, confused, and purely exhausted. They’re lucky if they get any nutrition advice (other than the suggestion to keep taking a prenatal along with the pervasive pressure to diet and lose the baby weight fast).
Pair this with the fact that pregnancy takes an estimated 10% of a woman’s mineral stores to give to her baby, and it’s not really surprising that depletion is quickly becoming the “norm.” Moms are struggling to find the energy to get through the day, battling brain fog, mood swings, and anxiety, wondering why they aren’t feeling better 6 months… 1 year… 3 years after giving birth- many feeling symptoms even a decade or more later!
But what if we could trade the all-to-common narrative of a depleted, exhausted, stressed, and isolated transition into motherhood for one that’s nourished, nurtured, honored, and supported?
And what if we did it together and in a way that doesn’t sugar coat or ignore the challenges of this season but instead, deeply honors and validates them?
Postpartum is an intense and vulnerable time for women that is not properly recognized or respected in our modern society.
Pressure to “bounce back” to your pre-baby body that basically ignores everything you’ve gone through to build and birth new life
Everyone’s preoccupation with the baby’s sleep schedule, eating patterns, and temperament while seemingly forgetting about the new mom’s needs
A single 6-week check-up and an “all clear” to return to normal life when you’re feeling anything but
An oversimplified multiple choice postpartum depression screening test that too-easily can fail to detect struggles or respect nutritional impacts on mental health
Lack of proper nutrition advice, follow-up care, physical rehab, mental health support, and maternity leave
Common symptoms that have become normalized by a society and healthcare system that fails to meet our needs while natural changes and experiences have become taboo to talk about
It’s not cutting it.
Matrescence- the process of becoming a mother- is a major transformative period in a woman’s life that can take 2-3 years!
This change can impact all areas of her health and wellbeing- physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual. It can rock her world, challenging her identity, her routine, her energy and overall life as she knows it.
And it requires a lot more attention and support than we’re currently giving it.
Yet the focus often is placed more heavily on pregnancy- where women get more check-ups in 9 months than they do in the entire first few years postpartum. And sure, there’s good reason we prioritize the whole process of growing new life… but the impacts and new challenges experienced in the time beyond birth are too often missed.
Postpartum is typically forgotten- and many new moms can feel like they are, too.
Although pregnancy is natural and beautiful, it’s extremely demanding, leaving many new moms depleted after birth. On top of this, their bodies and brains have gone (and continue to go) through immense changes.
They’re needing to heal from birth (often while having limited opportunity to do so properly). They’re caring for and nourishing new life and trying to figure out how to care for themselves, too.
And all while adjusting to this new role and the unique stressors it brings and trying to assimilate back to their lives.
As a result of this lack of attention, education, and support, many new moms wonder why they don’t feel like themselves in the months and even years after birth. It’s common for new symptoms to pop up or old ones to resurface or intensify, especially because we normalize signs of imbalance and dysfunction far too often.
So remind me why we’re not emphasizing this important period of time and what’s required to optimally recover, replenish, and revitalize in order to thrive in motherhood and feel the way we’re designed to feel?
It’s time we change that.

About the Creator
I’m Kim Perez, the owner of Root & Branch Nutrition, functional nutritionist, and mom just like you.
My postpartum experience was intense. It opened my eyes to not only gaps in my own healing, but major missing pieces in the mainstream approach to postpartum recovery. You see, while I was pregnant, I did my research. I prepared, a lot. I felt supported. But I couldn’t even begin to imagine what this season would be like and what I would need to feel my best. So then when I didn’t feel that way- especially after months of intentional focus on recovery culminating in what I can only describe as a crash- I did what I know how to do best- dig to find out why.
I learned more about the depths of postpartum changes we go through after birth, the process of becoming a mother (and the fact that there’s a name for it yet this isn’t common knowledge), and the concept of postnatal depletion. I continued my professional education, completing programs focused on metabolism and minerals.
I explored traditional postpartum care and was reminded that throughout history, women had other women to help nurture, guide, support, and care for them through pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond.
My eyes were opened and I felt the need to scream it all from the rooftops. I began making some major shifts to how I was doing things- for my own nourishment and care, but also in my practice. And fast forward, the idea for Nourished Postpartum was born.
If I could, I’d snap my fingers to change the whole system- magically revert back to our traditional postpartum care model, implement universal paid maternity leave, and expand access to crucial services and healthcare modalities so women could properly heal and enter motherhood in a more gentle and nourished way.
But what I can do is work to re-imagine this wise village and create a program that emulates some of the most beneficial aspects, provide the important information, tips, and resources new moms are lacking to create a ripple effect and eventually impart larger change…
Helping to create a world where nourished motherhood is the norm.

Frequently Asked Questions
+ I’m very newly postpartum, is this program for me?
That depends! If you feel you're able and excited to show up weekly, take in new information, and make changes in your life, you'll absolutely benefit from going through the program.
However it's important to consider your capacity and what's realistic for you right now. The fourth trimester- those first 3 months after giving birth- especially may not be the best time due to limited physical and mental time and energy.
Life in those first few months is stressful enough and the goal for this program is not to to add more to your plate! This is one major reason why I created The Root & Branch Guide to a Nourished Fourth Trimester- to help provide the most crucial info for building a strong foundation during this time in an easily-digestible format.
If you're looking for some guidance to support your healing and aid your replenishment during this season, this guide would be a perfect place to begin- you can use the code NOURISHED4THTRI10 to grab it at 10% off!
Overall, if you're struggling to take care of your basic needs and feel really overwhelmed right now- it may be best to wait and catch another round of the program. It will be here when you're ready!
+ I’m currently postpartum but not for the first time, would it still be a good idea to join?
Absolutely! Whether with your first baby or not, postpartum is still a vulnerable and intense time of so much internal and external change. And while the first time-around can be intense, each postpartum experience can bring a unique set of challenges, too!
Especially if your earlier postpartum experience(s) was challenging and you want a more positive and supported one this time and/or want to do things differently, Nourished Postpartum is the right program for you.
+ My children are older, can I still join the program?
You definitely can join and benefit a ton from Nourished Postpartum. You may find some topics less relevant for the current season of motherhood you're in. However, postpartum is technically forever and if you particularly feel like you didn't get the support you needed earlier postpartum, feel you haven't fully recovered and replenished, and/or are experiencing new and/or more intense symptoms since giving birth, this program will be a great fit for you.
+ How much time will I need to devote to the program?
Ultimately, it’s up to you. In order to be sensitive to demands and unpredictability of the postpartum season, the program itself is designed to be flexible and self-paced! Postpartum is also so different for everyone- for example, if you have older children at home, your level of support, if you're returning to work outside of the home, etc. There’s no pressure to “keep up” and complete everything in a specific time frame.
You can expect to spend an average of 2 hours per week participating in the program- that can mean 1 hour on 2 days per week or under 20 minutes each day! There will be bonus content as well, so completing everything within the 12 weeks may require more time, but many of these resources are meant to be supplemental and used as reference through your journey.
At minimum, you’ll want to devote at least 1 hour consistently per week to Nourished Postpartum. If that’s not doable right now, it may be best to wait until the next round. Overloading yourself with limited capacity and creating more stress would go against the entire theme of this program! It will be here when you’re ready!
+ What is the difference between Nourished Postpartum and 1-1 nutritional therapy services?
Nourished Postpartum is a 3-month group coaching program comprised of a mix of self-paced educational content, individual assessment, live coaching, and community support all tailored to the postpartum period.
On the other hand, 1-1 nutritional therapy services are a much more investigative and individualized program not necessarily postpartum-specific. 1-1 work involves additional assessments, more frequent communication, and a more detailed protocol that is customized step-by-step over time. As a result, 1-1 work is a higher touch service that requires an increased financial investment as well as time commitment.
+ What is your refund policy?
Because this program is offered virtually and includes downloadable content, there are no refunds. If you have any questions before registering, please email me at kim@rootandbranchnutrition.com.
